David Lewis started in law enforcement in 1993 with the Diamond Police Department as a reserve officer until he was hired by the Joplin Police Department in November of 1995. During his time at the Joplin Police Department he served as a patrol officer, traffic officer, FTO, and as a member of the Joplin Police Department Riot team. In March of 2002 he transferred to the Investigations Division. During his time as a Detective with JPD he worked property crimes, arson investigations, gang officer, pawn shop detail, and served on the major crimes team. While in the investigations division He was officer of the month three times, he was the recipient of the 2006 Jim Nail Detective of the Year, and the 2008 Joplin Police Department Detective of the Year. He was promoted to patrol corporal in August of 2008 and served as an assistant shift supervisor. In 2010 he was transferred to the Internal Affairs division as the IA Corporal. He served in IA from August of 2010- August of 2011 (it was a 1 year assignment). He then transferred back to the Patrol Division. In April of 2012 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and ran a patrol shift until he retired in December of 2015 after 20 years of service. In February of 2016 he started as a reserve deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. In August of 2016 he was hired by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office full time as court security at the Joplin Courthouse. He was promoted to the rank of Detective with the Sheriff’s Office in April of 2019 and is currently assigned to work property crimes.
